Central Courtyard
Architectural Program

The architectural program presents a prehospital unit, which will provide medical assistence for urgent cases of low and medium complexity. For cases of high complexity, the program has rooms for stabilization and observation until the removal for emergency-grade qualified hospitals.

The hospital also has a care center which contains sereveral rooms for social service, dentistry, paediatrics, general practice and tests like x-ray, MRI, lab emergency and electrocardiography. Besides, it has an educational center with a study room, a library and a lounge conference for the residents.

The health clinic holds spaces for the controlling and the distribution of medicines for patients, and it includes a central for managing clean and dirty clothes, although the washing process will be addressed to a third party company, as well as the preparation of meals for the patients.

The building will feature a locker room and a cafeteria for the employees, as well as resting room with beds, living area and kitchen for the doctors on duty.

Analysis of Land

The land is located at Barra da Tijuca, on the corner of Avenida Alfredo Baltazar da Silveira and Rua Vitorino Fernandes, near Barra World. Its surroundings are characterized mostly by residences with up to 3 floors and some condominium buildings with 22 floors. Besides, there is a mall in front of the field, which has a strong marketing and a college.

Regarding the road system, the traffic is very intense in Barra da Tijuca, mainly at Avenida das Américas, due to the fact that it's an essential avenue for vehicle circulation in this area.

Recently, it was deployed the BRT (Bus Rapid System) system near the fiel, which will facilitate the come and go of patients from the clinic.

Concept

The projective design was based on the premise of integrating the external area to the internal area, bringing nature into the clinic. It was possible due to the creation of a central courtyard , which was inspired by the form of the architectural object. As a way of separating the building, it was used the sectors themselves, thus creating blocks that are united by a single sun-shading structure (brise-soleil)

The sun-shading structure both unites and protects the facades with poor solar incidence. Throughout the second floor, it's possible to see a circulation that is external to the building, which prevents people to go through unecessary places in order to get to their destination and integrates the external area, since it was used brises like the ones used on the facades for its sealing.

In order to leverage the prevailing winds from the region and better integrate the field's areas, one of the blocks was elevated, creating a circulation underneath it, leveraging the space with green area.
